Privacy Policy for CompressKit
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains how CompressKit: Video & Image Compressor, a Windows application by AfterMango (hereinafter referred to as the “Operator”, “we”, or “our”), handles information when you use it.
We believe that privacy is a fundamental right. This Policy applies to all information that we may receive about users of the CompressKit app for Windows.
If you do not agree to this privacy policy, please do not use our Services.
Our Principles
We have designed this policy to be consistent with the following principles:
- Privacy policies should be human-readable and easy to find.
- Data collection, storage, and processing should be minimized as much as possible to enhance security.
- Data practices should meet the reasonable expectations of users.
2. Information We Collect (and Don’t Collect)
CompressKit is designed to work without collecting anything about you. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data, videos, or images.
No Accounts or Personal Data
CompressKit does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address. We do not collect your name, contact details, or any personally identifiable information.
Your Files Are Processed on Your PC
Every tool in CompressKit runs on your PC, using your computer’s processor and graphics card. That includes compressing and resizing videos, extracting frames, making GIFs, compressing and converting images, making ID photos, and removing metadata. Your original files and the files created from them are never uploaded to our servers or to any third party, and the app does not need an internet connection to do its work.
Access Only to the Files You Choose
CompressKit only opens the files you give it, by dragging them onto the app or choosing them in the Windows file picker. It does not scan your folders or libraries. Results are saved as new files in the folder you choose, or by default in a folder inside your Videos or Pictures library (for example, Videos\Compressed or Pictures\GIFs).
The app declares these Windows capabilities:
- Videos and Pictures libraries: so it can save results to its default folders in those libraries and open the file picker there.
- Full trust: CompressKit is a desktop app, so like other desktop programs you install it can work with files on your PC. It uses this only to read the files you add and to write the files it creates.
ID Photos and Face Detection
When you make a passport or ID photo, CompressKit can use the face detector built into Windows to find where the face is in your photo, so it can frame the crop to the required size. This happens on your PC. It only locates a face; it does not identify who the person is, compare faces, or create or keep any facial template or other biometric data. You can also frame the photo by hand instead.
Removing Metadata
The Remove metadata tool writes a clean copy of your photo without descriptive information such as camera details, GPS location, comments, and other embedded text. Your original file is left unchanged. This, too, happens entirely on your PC.
Information Stored on Your PC
To work properly, CompressKit keeps a small amount of information in its own app data folder on your PC. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Settings: your choices in Settings, such as theme, output folder, file naming, and notifications.
- Job history: up to 50 finished jobs shown on the Queue page, with the file name, the tool and settings used, file sizes before and after, where the result was saved, whether it succeeded, and when. Clear finished on the Queue page removes them.
- Crash log: if the app crashes, technical details of the error are written to a log file so the problem can be diagnosed. These details may include file names or folder paths. The log stays on your PC, and we only see it if you choose to send it to us.
Uninstalling CompressKit deletes its app data folder, including all of the above. Your original files and the files the app created are not affected by uninstalling.
Notifications and Running in the Background
Long jobs can keep running from the system tray after you close the window, and the app can show a Windows notification when a job finishes, with buttons to open the result or show it in its folder. Both can be turned off in the app’s Settings, and notifications can also be turned off in Windows Settings.
No Ads, Analytics, or Tracking
CompressKit contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking software of any kind. The open-source components it includes for encoding video and images run inside the app on your PC and do not send any data.
Microsoft Store
When you get CompressKit from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles the download, updates, and any payment, under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Microsoft gives us aggregated reports through its Partner Center, such as the number of installs, ratings and reviews, and crash statistics that Windows reports to Microsoft depending on your diagnostic data settings. We cannot identify individual users from these reports. If you buy the app or an add-on, we never receive your payment details. You can control the diagnostic data Windows sends to Microsoft in Windows Settings, under Privacy & security and then Diagnostics & feedback.
3. How We Use Information
The limited information described above is used solely to:
- Understand overall install trends and app stability through the aggregated reports in Microsoft Partner Center.
- Find and fix problems that cause the app to crash.
- Reply to you if you contact us for support.
4. When We Disclose Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data, and we have none to sell, since your files never leave your PC. Microsoft handles store downloads, updates, and payments under its own privacy statement. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law.
5. Security Measures
Because CompressKit processes your videos and images entirely on your PC, your files are never transmitted over the network and never stored on our servers, eliminating the risk of your files being intercepted or exposed through us.
6. Your Choices
Because we hold no personal data from the app, there is nothing for us to export or delete. You can clear the job history at any time from the Queue page, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your PC. If you email us, you can ask us to delete our correspondence with you.
7. Children’s Privacy
Our Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as we expand our Services or to comply with legal requirements. We will change the date at the top of this page when we do, and we encourage you to check it periodically for updates.
