Privacy Policy for Compress Video

Last updated: 17 September 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains how the Compress Video mobile application by AfterMango (hereinafter referred to as the “Operator”, “we”, or “our”) handles information when you use our app.

We believe that privacy is a fundamental right. This Policy applies to all information that we may receive about users of the Compress Video mobile app.

If you do not agree to this privacy policy, please do not use our Services.

Our Principles

We have designed this policy to be consistent with the following principles:

  • Privacy policies should be human-readable and easy to find.
  • Data collection, storage, and processing should be minimized as much as possible to enhance security.
  • Data practices should meet the reasonable expectations of users.

2. Information We Collect (and Don’t Collect)

Compress Video is designed to function with maximum privacy. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data or videos.

No Accounts or Personal Data

Compress Video does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address. We do not collect your name, contact details, or any personally identifiable information.

100% On-Device Compression

All compression performed by Compress Video happens entirely on your mobile device. Your original videos and the compressed videos created from them are never uploaded to our servers or any third party. Nothing you compress ever leaves your device, and compression does not need an internet connection.

Access Only to the Videos You Choose

Compress Video does not ask for permission to read your photo or video library. You choose a video using Android’s own system picker, and the app can only open the video you selected. Compressed videos are saved to your device.

Foreground Service Permission

Compressing a video can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the video and your device. Android normally stops apps that are working in the background, so Compress Video uses a foreground service to keep a compression you started running while you switch to another app, lock your phone, or swipe the app away. Stopping the job part-way would lose all progress on that video.

The foreground service:

  • Starts only when you begin compressing a video you selected.
  • Stops automatically as soon as that compression finishes, fails, or you cancel it.
  • Shows a progress notification with a Cancel action for the whole time it runs.
  • Cannot be started by other apps.
  • Does not collect, transmit, or share any data. All of the work happens on your device.

Android requires every foreground service to declare what kind of work it does:

  • Android 15 and later: the app uses the media processing type (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROCESSING), which Android provides for exactly this kind of work.
  • Android 14 and earlier: the app uses the data sync type (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC), because the media processing type does not exist on those versions. Despite its name, nothing is synced or uploaded. The compression still runs entirely on your device.

On Android 15 and later, the system stops a job that has been running in the background for 6 hours. If a compression is close to that limit, Compress Video shows a notification about 30 minutes beforehand. Opening the app resets the limit so the compression can continue.

Notifications

The app only shows notifications about compressions you started:

  • Compression progress: the percentage done, the estimated time left, and a Cancel button, while a video is being compressed.
  • Finished compressions: if a compression ends while the app is in the background, a notice tells you whether it succeeded, with the file size before and after, or why it could not finish.

On Android 13 and later, the app asks for notification permission to show these. If you decline, compression still works and you simply will not see the notifications. You can also turn either kind off at any time in your device’s notification settings for the app.

Information Automatically Collected (Analytics & Ads)

To keep the app free and to understand how it is used, we rely on the following standard third-party services:

  • Google Play Console Analytics: We only receive aggregated, anonymized install and usage statistics (such as installs, crashes, and ratings) directly through Google Play Console. We do not run any analytics SDK of our own inside the app.
  • Google AdMob: We use AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID), approximate location based on your IP address, app interactions, and diagnostic information, to serve personalized or non-personalized ads based on your device settings and choices. You can read how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
  • Google Play Billing (In-App Purchases): If you choose to buy a one-time premium upgrade, the purchase is processed entirely by Google Play’s billing system. We do not receive or store your payment details (such as card numbers). Google Play only shares with us the confirmation needed to unlock your purchase.

Your Advertising Choices

Where required by law, such as in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the app asks for your consent through Google’s User Messaging Platform, and a Privacy choices option appears in the app’s Settings so you can change your decision at any time. Anywhere, you can reset your Advertising ID or turn off ad personalization in your Android device settings.

3. How We Use Information

The limited data described above is used solely to:

  • Serve advertisements to keep the application free.
  • Understand overall install and usage trends through Google Play Console.
  • Unlock premium features you purchase through Google Play Billing.

4. When We Disclose Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data, and we have none to sell, since your videos never leave your device. The only information shared with third parties is the device data collected directly by Google AdMob and Google Play Console, strictly for ad serving and usage analytics, and the purchase data handled directly by Google Play Billing when you buy a premium upgrade. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law.

5. Security Measures

Because Compress Video processes and compresses your videos entirely on your device, your videos are never transmitted over the network and never stored on our servers, eliminating the risk of your files being intercepted or exposed through us.

6. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as we expand our Services or to comply with legal requirements. We encourage you to check this page periodically for updates.
